INDIAN RAILWAYS

Rail Wheel Factory  (RWF) formerly known as Wheel And axle Plant was visited by Mr.Mallikarjun Kharge, Union Railway Minister.

Rail Wheel Factory was set up in1984 at a cost of Rs.146 crores.The factory is in Yelahanka,Bengaluru spread over  an area of 291 acres.


The annual turnover of RWF is Rs.1200 crores.Total Employee strength is 2627.RWF is the first RWF is the first Indian Railway unit to receive patent for its micro-alloyed cast wheel.The unit produced 2,06,357 cast wheels in 2012-13.RWF is world leader in producing the cast wheels for coaching stocks.

The RWF consistently maintained production level close to plant capacity on a
sustained basis after operation of 3rd furnace in December,2007. RWF with its technical capability &capable work force has all the potential to export cast wheels in the international market at very competetive rates.RWF has also developed various types of wheels approved by TTCI/USA.
Addressing the media,Mr.Kharge said,the following.
1.A LHB technology coach factory will be set up in Yadgir,Karnataka.
2. Bangalore city station is overloaded.Hence,more platforms and tracks
    will be laid in the land to be acquired from BBMP which has acquired the Binny
   Mills land. 
3.Yelahanka railway station will be remodelled.
4.Udhampur to Katra track completed which will benefit the pilgrims visiting
   the holy shrine of Goddess Vaishno Devi.
